Brought together by two of Singapore's most active and award-winning musicians, Roberto and Kevin join forces to present a collection of various leading repertoire for the flute and guitar duo. Roberto Alvarez Diversity of styles is a hallmark of Roberto's concerts and recitals. As a matter of fact he feels just as comfortable performing classical, baroque or avant-garde music as well as celtic, jazz or rock.

Throughout his career he has received various international prizes, such as the Diploma of Honor in the Torneo Internazionale di Musica, Concurso Internacional de Música "Paper de Musica" de Capellades, the Ángel Muñíz Toca Award and the Ciutat de Manresa Prize.

Chamber music and orchestra playing are two of Roberto's passions. He has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonía, Bach-Akademie, the Algarve Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philarmonic, working with the most renowned conductors.

He shows his interest not only in classical formations, but has also participated in several jazz and folk groups, always looking for new sonorities for the flute, and has performed the music of his region, Asturias, all over the World.

Roberto Alvarez Roberto's passion for new music has led him to perform World Premieres very often in his recitals and recordings. In his recording La Noche (Spanish for The Night) he shows his artistry playing flute, piccolo and alto flute, performing pieces especially written for him by composers from Spain and Singapore.

In addition to his performances he is an enthusiastic flute teacher, having given masterclasses in Youth Orchestras and several conservatories and festivals. He currently teaches at the School of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, in Singapore.

Roberto is the Solo Piccolo at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra since July 2007.


Kevin Loh, Guitar

Kevin Loh (19), recipient of the 2010 HSBC Youth Excellence Award, was talent scouted by The Yehudi Menuhin School via his YouTube Channel when he was twelve and was awarded a grant by The Rolling Stones to study at the prestigious music school.

Kevin Loh Since then, his extraordinary musicality has won him international accolades. In 2012, Kevin took first prize at the Guitar Foundation of America's International Youth Competition. In 2013 he premiered Bernard Tan’s Guitar Concerto with SSO. In 2014, he was awarded the first prize at Andres Segovia International Youth Guitar Competition in Germany. In 2015, he was youngest artist, to be invited to perform at the India International Classical Guitar Festival & Competition. In 2016, he achieved several milestones by winning the 1st Prize in the Senior Division of both the Guitar Foundation of America and Andres Segovia International Youth Guitar Competition in Germany. In addition he was selected as a Young Artist by the International Guitar Foundation in the United Kingdom and Singapore's Gifted Young Musician where he played Concierto de Aranjuez.

Kevin Loh image Kevin is also passionate about community work in Asia and has since performed in numerous national charity events, such as ChildAid in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. In 2011, Kevin gave his debut solo concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall and raised SGD $180,000 for charity. In 2012, Kevin was voted by My Paper as one of ten Singaporeans who make the nation proud. A young talent with tremendous energy and potential, Kevin has a bright future as a beacon of youth excellence in music for our community.


Kseniia Vokhmianina, Piano

Kseniia Vokhmianina Kseniia Vokhmianina performs internationally as a piano recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician. A recipient of the Lee Foundation Scholarship, she studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), and consequently continued with the degree course offered in collaboration with the Royal College of Music (UK). Upon successful graduation, Ms Vokhmianina was awarded the "Best Graduate (Degree)" and the "Embassy of Peru" awards. In 2015 she completed her Masters in Music with distinction at the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University (Ukraine). She has been a student of the distinguished pianist and pedagogue, Professor Boris Kraljevic for many years.

A prizewinner of international piano competitions held in France, Australia, Poland, Italy, Serbia, Malaysia and Singapore, Ms Vokhmianina has been a guest artist in several international music festivals, including "Convivium Musicum" (Serbia), "International Piano Festival" (Vietnam), "Days of Music" (Montenegro), "George Town Festival" (Malaysia), "International Holland Music Sessions” (Netherlands). She appeared as a concerto soloist with Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Symphony Orchestra, Festival Symphony Orchestra (Singapore), Kharkiv Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (Ukraine), Belgorod Chamber Orchestra (Russia), and Kaunas Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (Lithuania).

Besides her international performing career, Ms Vokhmianina is a full-time Music Faculty member of the School of The Arts (SOTA) and part-time piano accompanist at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. For more information, please visit kseniiavokhmianina.com


Ramu Thiruyanam, , Percussion

Ramu Thiruyanam Known for his dedication to music education, Ramu is percussion specialist based in Singapore and is a sought-after performer/clinician throughout South East Asia.

A scholarship recipient of both the National Arts Council and Berklee, he has won numerous awards both locally and internationally and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Education, Performance and a minor in Child Psychology. Recently certified by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington as a Specialist in World Music Pedagogy, he has had many successful concerts both as a soloist and as a supporting percussionist in countries such as Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Europe and the USA and worked with many international artists and orchestras such as the SSO, SCO, SLO, MFO, and the Boston Civic Orchestra.

A full time music faculty member at SOTA and a Vic Firth Education artiste, he currently engages himself in creative musical projects and conducts clinics for teachers and students alike throughout the year.


Dr. Tony Makarome, Conductor, Composer, Bassist

Dr. Tony Makarome Conductor, composer, bassist Dr. Tony Makarome is Associate Professor at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory. He has worked as conductor and prompter.

Dr. Makarome composed many pieces e.g. Scifi Lounge premiered in Bangkok and Name with No Street was performed in Shanghai. His recent work What Pattern& (for choir) received a US premiere in Carnegie Hall (2016).

As bassist, he performed with Louis Bellson, Charlie Haden's Liberation Orchestra and Quartet West. As a leading pedagogue of solfége and jazz, he served as an award-winning teacher at Walden School (USA). Current projects include Esplanade's "Mozaic Jazz Fellows" and musicianship course for NAC.
